SERVICES

Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another. CBT is based on the idea that changes in one of these areas can lead to improvements in the others. For example, changing unhelpful thoughts can lead to healthier behaviors and improved emotion regulation. Likewise, learning how to relax can lead to clearer thinking and better problem-solving. CBT is time-limited (usually 6-10 sessions). Dr. Gilliom uses CBT with clients of all ages to treat anxiety, OCD, depression, anger, and other issues. CBT for children involves parent participation to help children use skills outside of sessions.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

DBT was designed for people whose intense emotions lead to significant problems such as self-harm, avoidance of important activities, or broken relationships. Participants learn to be mindful of themselves and their surroundings, manage emotions, tolerate distress, and get along with others. They learn to live in the moment, and they learn when to accept things as they are and when to make changes.  DBT often includes weekly individual therapy sessions and weekly group sessions. Dr. Gilliom provides individual DBT sessions and works closely with DBT groups in the community. He has completed intensive training in DBT through Behavioral Tech.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Family therapy addresses specific issues affecting the health and functioning of a family. It can be used to help a family through a difficult period of time, a major transition, or behavioral health problems in family members. Goals of family therapy include understanding how specific behaviors affect others, resolving conflicts, learning new ways of relating to each other, and opening lines of communication between family members.

Family Therapy

Dr. Gilliom consults with parents, couples, and individuals to offer a new perspective on challenging problems. Consultations usually consist of one or two sessions. The focus could be on helpings parents better understand and support their child, helping parents tell their children about divorce or other major changes, or providing diagnostic clarification and reviewing treatment options. In each case, the goal is to understand the issue and come up with a plan of action.
